Ajax in Opera, requirements needed

I'm considering building a web application with Ajax and want it to be compatible with it to be compatible with Opera. What guidelines should I follow?

This is a very open question, and I was hoping to cover Ajax as a follow up part to the web standards curriculum. It won't be a for a few months though. Opera supports basically everything that the other major browsers do.
