MAMA: Markup report, part 3: Basic BODY markup

This week in the world of MAMA, Brian Wilson begins to look at the real heart of HTML markup, looking at images, phrase and block elements and links. These elements are what make HTML tick, giving documents their life and primary expression. Brian takes a look at each of these areas in turn, and the results MAMA returned about them.

avatarIt's quite easy to construct the Venn diagrams to scale using Google Charts. For example, the Venn diagram for the GIF-JPG-PNG combination is http://chart.apis.google.com/chart?cht=v&chs=300x200&chd=t:13,85,100,9,10,73,8

You can find the details at http://code.google.com/apis/chart/ or try a chart builder like the one at http://www.s-anand.net/chart

avatarI see that the MAMA articles series is becoming more and more interesting. Information on image elements is really thorough and presented in a neat, comprehensible way. Can't wait for the next expisode on froms. Don't let me wait too long!

That's very cool Anand, thanks for the pointers.

When I did those diagrams I didn't know about Google charts or your tool, but I'll definitely consider them in the future. I considered using to-scale Venn diagrams, but some portions of the sets in these diagrams were so small, the intersections would not be very visually discernable. To get around this, I just used 3 and 4 part symmetric Venn diagrams that showed clear intersection spaces and that would make a pretty and balanced graphic. Lame excuse, I know.
