Does unite work if upnp is not allowed?

I have not be able to get unite file sharing to work, but my machine sits behind a firewall with no open ports. I have upnp turned off at the router by design. I think upnp is a security disaster waiting to happen, and am not willing to turn it on. Is this a deal breaker?

I am willing to open specific ports and forward them as required, if that would suffice, but have not found any documentation re that option.

Any thoughts would be appreciated.

Opera Unite should run through the Opera proxy if it can't connect through upnp.

My Opera cannot connect through Opera proxy.
